Hailing originally from Austin Texas, “Betrayed by Sorrow” is a uniquely talented, and extraordinarily commercial melodic hard rock band whose Christian message and thought provoking lyrics bring optimism and hope to fans and listeners of their music. The band was conceived by lead vocalist / keyboardist Rob Alaniz and guitarist Jon Vela in the summer of 2008.
Citing musical influences the likes of Shinedown, Alter Bridge, Breaking Benjamin, and All That Remains, the extremely radio friendly sound of Betrayed by Sorrow offers hope and perseverance to their fans and audiences. The Never-Give-Up message in their songs is clean and fresh unlike the message of rage and despair often found in the hard rock music environment today.
In July of 2009 the band released their debut album, “After the Fall” produced by Craig Lawrence at the Pirate Studio in Austin Texas, and Mastered by Multi ™Grammy award winning engineer Rob Burrell. Within two weeks after the record hit the street, it was placed in rotation and added to radio station play lists in Central Texas, most notably KLYD RealRock 98.9. Since that time it has received airplay on over 50 radio stations across the Southern United States.
When asked their songwriting process for their debut album, After the Fall, Alaniz replied, “it usually begins with Jon structuring the song and melody, then I usually write the lyrics and sometimes arrange the songs – then recruited session players are given complete flexibility to add their respective parts. By utilizing this process we have found that all of our songs turn out completely cohesive and solid”.
Betrayed by Sorrow is not just a dynamic up and coming studio and recording band but they also take great pride in their performance at many high profile shows. Some of which include the Texas Bayfest and the Belle Opry House in 2009, and stand-out performances at Six Flags Over Texas and SXSW in 2010. Some additional achievements this amazing group has managed to pull off is having a song featured on the Xbox360 game Rockband, with the release date to be announced, and an iPhone application in October of 2010.
Aside from grinding out a phenomenal blend of Christian Melodic Rock – with a message, this dedicated group of young talented musicians supports many Christian and non-profit organizations. One of note is Maggie’s Hope Foundation, a nonprofit organization for families with children experiencing Autism.
Betrayed by Sorrow is preparing new material for preproduction of their next album scheduled for release in the Spring of 2012.
